NSW: Bankstown airport closed after light plane crash

Sydney's Bankstown airport was closed for more than an hour hour this morning after a light aircraft crashed on a runway.

The single-engined plane was attempting to land on the airport's southern runway at 10.20 am (AEDT) when it crashed and flipped onto the centre runway.

Emergency services were called and the airport was closed while ambulance workers attended to the male pilot .. who was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

He was the only person on board the plane.

The wreckage was cleared and the airport has been reopened.
